Arbortext's consultants serve on many standard-setting committees, both to assist in the design and implementation of new standards, and to further expand their expertise. Our consultants have become experts in many industries such as the following:
- ATA (airlines): The Air Transport Association, a consortium of commercial airlines, developed several DTDs under the ATA-100 specification. Arbortext has been awarded several major contracts with aircraft manufacturers and commercial airlines, and our consultants offer extensive knowledge of this industry's needs.
- CALS: An initiative of the Department of Defense, the CALS (Continuous Acquisition and Life-Cycle Support) effort was the first large-scale adoption of SGML technology. In part, CALS standards apply to maintaining technical information for weapons systems. Arbortext offers a range of products and services specifically in support of CALS-compliant programs.
- DocBook: The Davenport Group, founded by major producers and consumers of technical documentation for computer systems, developed the DocBook DTD for technical manuals. Arbortext's consultants have remained intimately aware of this specification's progress and we now distribute the DocBook DTD with enhancements such as on-line tag help and a customized style sheet.
- J2008: The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is developing the J2008 DTD for the electronic interchange of service and diagnostic information. Arbortext participates on the J2008 Task Force and works with major automotive companies and their suppliers.
- Pinnacles (now ECIX): Led by Intel, National Semiconductor, Texas Instruments, Phillips and Hitachi, the semiconductor industry's Pinnacles Group (now ECIX) developed a standard DTD for conveying product information to their customers, including descriptions, specifications, and other data. Arbortext's consultants have been deeply involved with the development of Pinnacles applications, which require extensive capabilities beyond standard word processing.
